• What is Zora?

  Zora is an African, female-owned chocolate maker committed to celebrating West African cocoa, elevating its growers, and supporting female economic empowerment. Our aim is to make chocolate which speaks to your heart and nourishes your soul, emphasising the transference of love through taste, craft, equity, and equality.

• How is Zora different?

  Think farm-to-table chocolate. As a profit-for-purpose company, we care about building a sustainable model for cocoa growers that will last for generations.

• Where is your cocoa sourced?

  Our beans are sourced from an Organic, Fair Trade farmer cooperative in Suhum, Ghana called ABOCFA. The co-op employs over 900 farmers. The cacao they produce is widely regarded as some of the finest in the world, with a detailed, rich, and wonderfully sweet flavour profile. ABOCFA is run democratically, and every farmer gets a say in how the co-op’s funds are spent. We are proud of our ability to trace the cocoa bean’s journey, and to share it with you.

• How does Women’s Economic Empowerment tie to chocolate?

  As a woman-owned, women-run company, Zora is building a more gender equal cocoa supply chain. Through our economic empowerment and educational programs, we support our sisters in Ghana to positively impact their households, communities and the generations to come.

• What are Zora’s ethics?

  1: Bean to Bar. Hand to Heart.
  Bean to bar means connecting people directly to the source of their chocolate with full transparency. A connection to West Africa, to the land, to the farmers; a connection to one’s self and between womankind. We produce mindfully made chocolate which will only ever contain clean, sustainable goodness and quality ingredients – no dairy, artificial flavours or other unhealthy surprises.

  2: Inspire Women to Empower Women
  Women are often the ones most marginalised by the current system. We’re working closely to inspire, empower and amplify the voices of female farmers, producers, artisans and aficionados. As a woman owned and operated company, we are proud to support our sisters from all backgrounds, stepping into the realm of change and possibility.

  3: Always West Africa
  As the largest cocoa producing region, we are inextricably linked to West Africa, doing our part to create change where it matters the most. By offering single origin West African chocolate, we are addressing the urgent needs within the industry.

  4: Big Love for Little Rituals
  We set out to make chocolate everyone can feel good about purchasing, consuming and gifting. For us, chocolate has always been about bliss, mindfulness and love. It speaks to minds, hearts and souls, encouraging us to savour those little moments we take for ourselves and the joy we share with others.

• How does your 1 Bar = 1 Academic School day work?

  Every time you buy a Zora chocolate bar, we dedicate a portion of the purchase price to funding one school day for a girl at Tarkwa Breeman Girls’ School in Ghana. Research has shown that when we invest in girls’ education, we foster economic growth, contribute to healthier families, and take another step towards gender equality.
